Jamshedpur, May 26: Ghaghidih Central Jail has been grappling with an ongoing water crisis, leading to distressing conditions for the prisoners. The inmates are desperately crying out for water as they endure an acute shortage. In an attempt to alleviate the situation, water is being supplied through tankers. The underlying issue lies with the malfunctioning borewell, contrary to earlier reports suggesting a motor failure. The water borewell has been rendered ineffective due to a decline in the water table, aggravated by the jail’s elevated location. Consequently, several prisoners have fallen ill due to the dire circumstances.

Even prominent figures like BJP leader Abhay Singh, who are incarcerated in Ghaghidih jail, are facing severe difficulties. Water scarcity has affected daily activities, including bathing, exacerbating an already critical situation. Despite the gravity of the problem, no substantial measures have been taken by the administration to address the issue. Rajkumar Singh, a Jamshedpur BJP leader and former Vice President of Zila Parishad, has been supplying water through a tanker for the past four days, ensuring the basic needs of all the prisoners are met. Within the confines of the jail, obtaining water has become an arduous task, with prisoners struggling to communicate their plight to the outside world. The lack of responsibility and accountability has exacerbated the sense of torment within the prison walls. The water shortage has reached a point where it is regarded as a form of torture. Both the district administration and jail authorities have been forced to rely on daily tanker deliveries, but this is proving to be inadequate.
