Kolkata (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds a slight lead over the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) following a neck-and-neck battle during the first two hours of counting in West Bengal.
By 10 a.m., trends for 176 of the state’s 293 assembly constituencies became available. The BJP leads in 90 seats, while the Trinamool Congress follows closely with 82. Candidates from the Congress and CPI-M currently lead in two seats each.
Regional Leads and Key Candidates
The Congress maintains its lead in the Malatipur and Mothabari constituencies within the minority-dominated Malda district. Mausam Benazir Noor, a former Trinamool Rajya Sabha member who returned to the Congress before the polls, leads in Malatipur. In Murshidabad, CPI-M candidates hold leads in the Jalangi and Domkal constituencies.

Cabinet Members and High-Profile Contests
Latest trends show some members of Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet trailing marginally, including Dr. Sashi Panja, the Minister for Women & Child Development and Social Welfare, in the Shyampukur constituency.
As of 10 a.m., officials had not yet released the trend for the high-profile Bhabanipur constituency in South Kolkata, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faces Suvendu Adhikari.
Election officials expect counting to span a minimum of ten and a maximum of 26 rounds, depending on the number of voters in each constituency.
