Jamshedpur, May 14: Residents of the Jugsalai Municipal Council area in Jamshedpur are grappling with a severe water shortage, escalating tensions as the situation worsens by the day. Frustrated by persistent disruptions in water supply, locals staged a demonstration in front of the Jugsalai Municipal Council on Tuesday, issuing a stern warning of resorting to violent protests if the issue remains unresolved.
Reports indicate that the Shafganj locality has been particularly affected, enduring a water scarcity for the past two months. Despite repeated demonstrations at the Jugsalai Municipal Council, a viable solution remained elusive. In a hasty attempt to address the crisis, the Drinking Water Department resorted to diverting water to the Shafganj locality by manipulating valves in the pipeline along RP Patel School Road. While this provided some relief to residents of Shafganj, it exacerbated the plight of those residing along RP Patel School Road.
The dire situation prompted residents of RP Patel School Road’s Chhaprahiya Mohalla to encircle the Jugsalai Municipal Council, directing their ire towards both the Municipal Council and the Drinking Water Department, as well as the Electricity Department.
Local resident Praveen Kumar highlighted the failure of authorities to resolve the water crisis adequately. He pointed out that rather than addressing the issues in Shafganj, the department opted to redirect water from RP Patel School Road, worsening conditions for its residents. Moreover, the deliberate power cuts during water supply hours further compounded the problem, underscoring the department’s inefficacy.
Expressing their growing frustration, residents warned of escalating protests if their grievances are not addressed urgently.
