Jamshedpur: Over 32,000 families residing in Chhota Govindpur and surrounding areas may face an acute water crisis from July 11 due to the prolonged negligence of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. Gemini Enterprises, the agency responsible for managing the local water supply scheme, has issued a stern warning regarding the suspension of services if dues are not cleared.
Arun Singh, Director of Gemini Enterprises, stated that the department has failed to clear pending payments for the last 17 months, amounting to nearly Rs 2.5 crore. “We are finding it extremely difficult to pay wages to workers and manage operational expenses. If the amount is not paid by July 10, we will be compelled to stop the water supply from the next day. The department will be solely responsible for the consequences,” Singh said.
The water supply disruption is expected to affect several areas including Govindpur, Gadra, Sarjamda, Haludbani and Parsudih, leading to significant inconvenience for thousands of residents.
Singh further said that he has written multiple letters to the Executive Engineer of the department seeking resolution, but no action has been taken so far. “Despite repeated appeals, the issue remains unresolved,” he added.
However, Executive Engineer Sunil Kumar offered a note of reassurance. “A letter has been received from the Engineer-in-Chief to process the payment. Some necessary documents were required and have been sent. We are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon. Even if the amount is not released in time, efforts will be made to ensure water supply is not disrupted,” he stated.
With the deadline approaching fast, residents of these localities are now bracing for uncertainty and hoping that timely action prevents a major civic crisis.
