Jamshedpur, June 26: A gang of unidentified thieves targeted six shops at Parsudih Market on Thursday night, making away with cash, vegetables, garlic, tomatoes and even eight ducks, leaving traders shocked when they opened their shops on Friday morning.
Potato and onion trader Ajay Yadav said the thieves broke into his shop and stole the cash drawer. The drawer was later found damaged a short distance from the market, but around Rs 2,000 in cash and important documents were missing.
Another trader, Dukhi Poddar, lost a crate of tomatoes, while Madhu Poddar reported the theft of garlic and loose cash. At a poultry shop, thieves escaped with eight ducks. A pan shop owned by Sunil was also broken into, but the culprits found no cash inside.
The incident has triggered anger among local traders, who questioned the market’s security arrangements. They alleged that despite the market committee collecting regular fees, no night guards are deployed, allowing thieves to repeatedly target the market.
On receiving information, Parsudih police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits. Traders have demanded permanent security measures, installation of CCTV cameras and regular night patrols to prevent such incidents.
