Ranchi, May 5: In a major policy shift, the Jharkhand Education Department has announced that from May onwards, government school teachers will receive their salaries only after submitting monthly reports detailing the progress of the academic syllabus. The decision, aimed at increasing accountability, was communicated through an official directive by Education Secretary Umashankar Singh to all district education officers.
As per the new guideline, each school will be required to submit a detailed monthly report mentioning the name of the school, the concerned teacher, class, subject, total working days, attendance and the number of chapters targeted versus completed. This report will cover all classes from Grade 1 to 12.
“The objective is to ensure quality and timely completion of the academic curriculum. Teachers will have to provide evidence of teaching activity and syllabus coverage. Random verifications will also be conducted,” an official from the Education Department stated. If irregularities are found in teaching or attendance, salary disbursement may be halted and disciplinary action could follow.
The move has stirred debate among educators, some of whom have expressed concern over the added burden of administrative work.
Meanwhile, the Need-based Assistant Professors Association of Ranchi University has appealed to the state government for health insurance coverage. Dr. Ramkumar Tirkey, General Secretary of the association, said, “Since 2017–18, assistant professors have been working on sanctioned vacant posts in affiliated colleges. We deserve health insurance like regular faculty members.”
This dual development reflects the state’s push for greater efficiency in education delivery, while also highlighting the demands for fair treatment of temporary academic staff.
