Jamshedpur: Akashvani Jamshedpur and the Department of Mass Communication of Karim City College jointly organized a speech competition on Thursday to celebrate 90 years of Akashvani’s establishment.
Akashvani will complete its 90-year journey on June 8 this year, and Prasar Bharati is commemorating the milestone through various events and activities across the country.
During the competition, students delivered speeches on five specially selected topics regarding Akashvani’s contribution to broadcasting, culture, and society. Participants had to present their views within a stipulated time frame.
In his welcome address, Dr. Mohammad Riyaz, Principal of Karim City College said that public broadcasting still plays a vital role in shaping informed and responsible citizens. Rajesh Kumar Rai, Head of Programmes at Akashvani Jamshedpur, spoke about Akashvani’s decades-long contribution to information dissemination, education, culture, literature, and public awareness.
The panel of judges included Rakesh Raman and Vivek Aditya, both Senior Programme Executives at Akashvani Jamshedpur, along with Dr. Neha Tiwary, Head of the Department of Mass Communication.
Students from different academic departments enthusiastically joined the competition and demonstrated impressive speaking and presentation skills.
Nandini Dutta from the Department of Mass Communication secured the first position, while Raunak Roshan from the Department of Mathematics stood second. Sangam Gupta from the Department of Physics claimed the third spot. The judges and audience also praised Shashwat Tripathi (Department of Hindi) and Ayush Asthana (Department of Mass Communication) for their strong content and presentation style.
