Southwest monsoon withdraws completely from Jharkhand

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Oct 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday officially announced the complete withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the entire state of Jharkhand, marking the formal end of the 2025 monsoon season. According to the IMD’s latest update, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon now extends through 14°N/72°E, Karwar, Kalburgi, Nizamabad, Kanker, Keonjhargarh, Sagar, Synoptic Island, Guwahati, and 28.0°N/92.5°E, indicating the monsoon’s complete retreat from the eastern and northeastern parts of the country, including Jharkhand.

The withdrawal on October 13 is broadly in line with the normal schedule for the state, which typically sees the monsoon exit around the second week of October. With this, Jharkhand has officially entered the post-monsoon or transition period, characterized by mainly dry and clear weather conditions.

Weather Outlook

The IMD forecast suggests that the state will experience mainly clear to partly cloudy skies over the next few days, with dry weather prevailing across most districts.

October 14: Mainly clear sky and dry weather likely.

October 15–17: Partly cloudy sky with continued dry conditions.

No significant synoptic weather systems are currently influencing Jharkhand.

However, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the central parts of Uttar Pradesh, observed between 1.5 and 3.1 Km above mean sea level, though it is not expected to impact local weather conditions in Jharkhand.

End of the Rainy Season

The 2025 monsoon season brought moderate to slightly above normal rainfall to various parts of Jharkhand.

The withdrawal of the monsoon marks the onset of cooler and more comfortable weather, paving the way for the Rabi cropping season in the agrarian state.

Meteorologists have also indicated that night temperatures are likely to gradually fall over the next week, signaling the approach of early winter conditions in several regions.

With the monsoon’s exit, Jharkhand is set to experience a dry spell and clear skies, typical of October’s transition phase — bringing relief from humidity and setting the stage for the festive and winter seasons ahead.
