Ranchi, June 24: In a significant step towards safeguarding the welfare of the state’s cultural community, the Jharkhand government has launched a dedicated pension scheme for elderly, critically ill and permanently differently-abled artists.
The initiative aims to provide financial security and social support to those who have devoted their lives to preserving and promoting the state’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
Approved under the leadership of Hemant Soren, the Monthly Artist Pension Scheme will provide eligible beneficiaries with a monthly honorarium of Rs 4,000. The assistance amount will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, ensuring transparency and timely disbursement.
According to officials from the Department of Art and Culture, the scheme is designed to support artists who are facing financial hardship due to advancing age, serious health conditions or permanent disabilities.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to recognising the invaluable contributions of artists who have played a vital role in preserving Jharkhand’s cultural identity through generations.
The scheme is open to native residents of Jharkhand engaged in diverse artistic disciplines, including music, dance, theatre, folk arts, painting, sculpture and other cultural fields. Eligible applicants must furnish documents such as proof of age and residence, income certificate, Aadhaar details, bank account information, records of artistic achievements and, where applicable, medical or disability certificates.
Officials stated that detailed guidelines and application forms are available on the official website of the state’s cultural affairs department. Completed applications, along with the required supporting documents, must be submitted to the Directorate of Cultural Affairs in Ranchi.
The last date for submitting applications has been fixed as July 31, 2026.
The scheme is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to several veteran and vulnerable artists across Jharkhand, while also reinforcing the state’s commitment to honouring and preserving its vibrant cultural legacy.
