Ranchi: JMM MLA Sita Soren was released from jail after over six months on Monday. She was welcomed by party workers at various places across the state Capital.

Jharkhand High Court had granted bail to JMM MLA Sita Soren on Thursday last in the horse trading case dating back to the 2012 Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand, which is being probed by CBI.

The court of Justice H C Mishra granted the bail after the premier investigation agency argued on the matter. Sita Soren, sister-in-law of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is in jail since February 25 following her surrender before a lower court.

The case was handed over to the CBI to probe into charges of accepting bribe against several MLAs from different parties to cast votes in favour of independent candidates in the RS polls held in the state Assembly.

The 2012 polls were held again after the seizure of Rs 2.15 crore from a car at Namkum in Ranchi during RS polls.

The cash reportedly belonged to the kin of one of the independent candidates by the police and Income Tax officials.
