Jamshedpur, January 29: New problems are cropping up in the Moharda drinking water project in Baridih-Birsanagar.
On Saturday afternoon, it was found that a water tank in Zone 7 of Birsanagar was closed for the last several years. There is no water in this tank with a capacity of 350 lakh gallons. As a result, water is flowing directly from the main pipe of GSR to the areas where this tank has been built for providing water, due to which the water supply is often interrupted.
When Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai went to the spot on Saturday evening, the information was found to be correct. A dense forest bush has grown around the water tank. The tank is big but there is a thin iron ladder to go over it, which can hardly be climbed by a man. There is also no arrangement for cleaning the tank. From there, the MLA called up JNAC special officer Krishna Kumar. He expressed ignorance about giving any information about this and said that he would ask Tata Steel UISL (formerly JUSCO) about this.
The MLA then called up official of Tata Steel UISL and was informed that in 2017 when Tata Steel UISL was given charge of running the Moharda drinking water project, this water tank was already closed and that TSUISL has not received its key till date.
“It is surprising that in 2017, the then Chief Minister Raghubar Das had taken the proposal of giving responsibility to TSUISL to run the Moharda drinking water project in the cabinet,” said Roy.
“No one showed seriousness about the implementation of this decision taken at the highest level in the government. While handing over the operation of Mohrada Drinking Water Project to TSUISL the reason for not handing over this tank to Tata Steel UISL should be disclosed. Is this tank not able to take the load of water supply? Is there any error in its construction? This is subject to investigation,” said Roy in a release
Saryu Rai has asked TSUISL to inspect the tank and get it cleaned and take steps to make it operational so that water reaches the houses.
In this matter, MLA Saryu Rai expressed hope that Tata Steel UISL and JNAC will be alert about commissioning the Moharda project and will fulfill their responsibility and identify the shortcomings and remove them.
