Jamshedpur, May 10: The East Singhbhum District Under-11 Open and Girls’ Chess Championship 2026 was held on Sunday at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. Young chess players from across the district participated in the tournament with great enthusiasm.
In the Under-11 Open category, Rudra Nil Roy emerged as the champion after scoring an impressive seven points. Vivaan Basak secured the second position, while Akshat Choudhary finished third. Other top performers included Rian Rohal Gollapalli, Ritwik Khatua, Adrij Mohanty, Dhariya Agarwal, Ansh Saurav Mishra, Nilesh Paul, and Vihaan Gupta.
In the Under-11 Girls’ category, Naira Aditya won the championship title with 4.5 points. Zaira Ahmad secured second place, while Soujanya Subhashini Pal finished third. T Niharika, Arya Shree, Anisha Kumari, Niyati Kashyap, Purbasha Sahu, T Neha, and Shreya Aich also featured among the top 10 players.
The chief guest on the occasion was N.K. Singh, former president of the All Jharkhand Chess Association and noted social worker. He felicitated the top three winners in both categories and encouraged children to excel in chess, saying the game helps improve concentration and mental strength.
Jayant Kumar Bhuyan, General Secretary of the East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA), was present as the guest of honour. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Vishal Kumar Minz along with arbiters Anup Kumar Singh, Tilak Ram, and Jagannath Prasad Sharma.
The top two players in both categories will now represent the district in the upcoming State Chess Championship.
