Potka girls’ exposure visit to Jamshedpur Football Club

Jamshedpur, Mar 20: Young girls from Potka block participated in a cross-learning visit to the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, under the joint initiative of the social organization Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA) and Kriya New Delhi.

YUVA’s Secretary, Varnali Chakraborty, emphasized the objective of the visit, stating, “Girls must understand, experience and prepare themselves to establish their own identity. However, gender biases and politics in sports often hinder their progress. It is crucial for them to seize opportunities and strengthen their presence in public spaces.”

Jamshedpur Football Club’s General Manager, Prashant, provided the opportunity for this visit, for which YUVA expressed gratitude. Praveen Kumar from Jamshedpur Football Club briefed the girls on various sports, pathways to join and the selection process. He highlighted the leadership roles of Jharkhand’s women athletes and their journey to success.

The visit inspired the girls, many of whom were visiting for the first time. Expressing their excitement, some stated their determination to pursue sports and break gender stereotypes. YUVA members Anjana Devgam, Chandmani Sawaiya, Avanti Sardar, Jasanti Sardar and Ratan played key roles in organizing the program.
