Jamshedpur, Dec 24: Jharkhand is set to bolster its administrative framework in the upcoming year by promoting 15 officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre. This enhancement includes nine officers from the Jharkhand Administrative Service (JAS) and six from non-administrative services, elevating the state’s IAS officer count from 158 to 173. Despite this increase, there remains a shortfall, as the sanctioned strength stands at 224 positions.
These promotions are anticipated to be formalized following the Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) approval and subsequent notification by the Ministry of Personnel, Government of India.
Promotions from Non-Administrative Services
In addition to the JAS officers, six positions are designated for promotion from non-administrative services, addressing backlogs from 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. The state government has submitted a list of 21 candidates from various departments, including Social Welfare, Education, Road Construction, Labor, Commercial Tax, Health, Agriculture, Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA), Cabinet, and Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD).

Current IAS Cadre strength in Jharkhand
As of December 2024, Jharkhand’s sanctioned IAS cadre strength is 224 positions. With 158 officers currently in service, the forthcoming promotions will increase the number to 173, still leaving a gap of 51 positions. This shortfall underscores the need for continued recruitment and promotions to meet the administrative demands of the state.
These promotions are part of the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its administrative machinery by recognizing and elevating deserving officers from within its ranks.
