E-Rickshaws to Begin Door-to-Door Waste Collection in Mango and JNAC Areas

Jamshedpur: Door-to-door waste collection services are set to become more effective in the narrow lanes and densely populated localities of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) and Mango Municipal Corporation areas with the introduction of newly procured e-rickshaws.

Officials said the new vehicles are expected to begin operations within the next four to five days, significantly improving sanitation services in areas where larger garbage collection vehicles have faced difficulties in reaching.

New E-Rickshaws to Access Narrow Lanes

The Mango Municipal Corporation has purchased 10 e-rickshaws, while the JNAC has procured six such vehicles to strengthen door-to-door waste collection.

The move is aimed at ensuring that waste is collected regularly even from congested colonies, narrow roads and interior lanes under the civic bodies’ jurisdiction. Authorities believe the lightweight and compact e-rickshaws will help sanitation workers access areas previously left out during routine garbage collection drives.

Existing Waste Collection Infrastructure Strengthened

Apart from the newly added e-rickshaws, the Mango Municipal Corporation already operates a substantial fleet of sanitation vehicles and equipment.

Currently, the corporation uses 51 auto-tippers for regular garbage collection. Waste lifting operations from Mango, Dimna Chowk and Pardih Chowk are also being carried out using two JCB machines, two Hyvas and one tractor.

In addition, 10 mini refuse compactors have been deployed specifically for waste collection from large residential societies and apartment complexes within the municipal area.

JNAC Divides City into Seven Sanitation Zones

To improve operational efficiency, the JNAC has divided its entire jurisdiction into seven separate zones for waste management activities.

More than 300 sanitation workers are currently engaged in round-the-clock cleaning and waste collection work across these zones. Officials said the civic body has significantly upgraded its sanitation infrastructure over the past few years.

The JNAC fleet presently includes 55 auto-tippers, five mini-compactors, two JCBs, five tractors, one Hyva and six newly procured e-rickshaws.

Focus on Cleaner and More Accessible Urban Areas

Officials stated that the introduction of e-rickshaws is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen urban sanitation and improve cleanliness in hard-to-reach areas.

Residents of narrow lanes and densely populated settlements are expected to benefit greatly from the new system, which will ensure timely collection of household waste and help prevent garbage accumulation in residential areas.
