Jamshedpur: The long-awaited bridge-cum-flyover project over the Swarnarekha River in Mango is rapidly approaching completion, bringing hope of permanent relief from chronic traffic congestion for lakhs of commuters. Stretching from near Blue Bells School on Mango-Dimna Road to the opposite bank of the river, the massive structure has now started taking visible shape across the skyline.
The ambitious infrastructure project is being constructed at an estimated cost of nearly ₹252 crore and is considered one of the most significant urban traffic solutions for the city in recent years.
Massive Structure to Rest on 57 Pillars
The mega flyover is being constructed on a total of 57 pillars, forming a large bridge structure over the Swarnarekha River and adjoining roads.
At present, construction of a four-lane stretch towards Dimna Road is progressing rapidly, while a two-lane section is being developed towards New Purulia Road. Officials stated that pillar construction inside the river has already been completed successfully.
Work is now continuing round the clock in the direction of the Workers’ Flats area.
Four-Lane Approach Road Towards Dimna Road
A major feature of the project is the construction of a wide four-lane approach road towards Dimna Road to streamline traffic flow. Authorities believe this expanded corridor will drastically improve connectivity between Mango and the city while easing pressure on existing roads.
The flyover is also expected to provide faster access for commuters traveling towards Sakchi, Mango, Dimna and adjoining areas.
Forest Clearance and Power Tower Pose Challenges
Despite rapid progress, certain administrative and technical hurdles continue to slow portions of the work.
Final forest clearance for the New Purulia Road section is still pending, with the approval process currently underway. Additionally, construction activities near the Workers’ Flats area are being affected by a high-tension power tower located opposite the Hathi-Ghoda Temple.
Officials said coordination is underway with the Electricity Department and district administration to relocate the tower and ensure uninterrupted progress of the project.
Major Relief Expected for Mango Residents
Once operational, the bridge-cum-flyover is expected to transform traffic movement in Mango and adjoining areas by reducing travel time, easing bottlenecks and improving overall urban connectivity.
Residents and commuters, who have long struggled with traffic snarls on Mango bridge and adjoining roads, are now eagerly awaiting the completion of the mega project.
Operations Targeted from August 2026
Officials associated with the construction agency have set August 2026 as the deadline for completion of the bridge and flyover corridor connecting Gandhi Ghat with Dimna Road. According to project authorities, vehicular movement on the flyover is expected to commence during the same month.
The flyover is expected to significantly reduce congestion in Mango, especially on routes connecting Dimna Road, Gandhi Ghat and New Purulia Road, which witness heavy traffic throughout the day.
