Jamshedpur, Feb 4: In a stern intervention, the Jharkhand High Court has ordered the immediate registration of an FIR in connection with an alleged case of HIV-infected blood being transfused into a patient in Chaibasa.
Terming the matter extremely serious, the court said such incidents reflect grave negligence and pose a direct threat to human life.
While hearing the petition, the High Court underscored that any lapse in blood screening, storage or transfusion protocols cannot be overlooked.
It directed the concerned authorities to promptly initiate criminal proceedings, fix responsibility, and conduct a thorough and time-bound investigation into the incident.
The court further stressed the importance of strict compliance with established medical guidelines in blood banks and healthcare facilities, warning that failure to do so could invite stringent legal action.
It also called for systemic review and strengthening of monitoring mechanisms to ensure patient safety.
The order has brought blood safety standards in the state into sharp focus, with health authorities expected to take corrective measures to prevent recurrence of such life-endangering lapses.
