Jamshedpur, June 7: A special ticket-checking drive conducted across the South Eastern Railway network, including trains passing through Tatanagar, resulted in the detection of 508 cases of travel irregularities and the recovery of Rs 3.67 lakh in penalties and excess charges.
The intensive enforcement campaign was launched under the directives of South Eastern Railway and carried out across multiple divisions, including Chakradharpur.
Teams comprising ticket-checking staff and personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted inspections on board trains as well as at major railway stations.
As part of the operation, special checks were undertaken on the Ahmedabad Express and Gyaneshwari Express at Kharagpur station.
Several other trains passing through the region were also covered under the drive, with officials scrutinising tickets, reservations and luggage carried by passengers.
Railway authorities said action was taken against passengers travelling without valid tickets, those using passenger-train tickets to board express services, travellers occupying sleeper coaches with unreserved tickets, and individuals carrying unbooked luggage in violation of railway rules.
During the two-day campaign, a total of 508 irregular travel cases were detected, leading to the collection of Rs 3,67,750 in fines and additional railway charges.
Officials stated that the drive was aimed at curbing revenue leakage, ensuring compliance with railway regulations and promoting greater awareness among passengers regarding proper travel practices.
The Chakradharpur Division’s ticket-checking teams also carried out inspections at various stations and on running trains, identifying a significant number of violators. Railway authorities indicated that such special enforcement drives would continue in the coming days, with strict action against those found flouting travel norms.
Passengers have been urged to travel only with valid tickets, adhere to reservation rules, and comply with luggage-booking regulations to avoid penalties and inconvenience during their journey.
