Jamshedpur: Social organisation Jan Satyagrah has raised serious concerns over alleged illegal collection of parking fees at the Mango Bus Stand in Jamshedpur without a valid tender, claiming that it has caused heavy revenue losses to the district administration. In a written representation dated February 3, 2026, addressed to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand through the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, the organisation has sought immediate administrative intervention.
According to the letter, despite repeated complaints submitted earlier (dated October 6, 2023; November 22, 2023; February 16, 2024; June 10, 2024; and September 16, 2025), no concrete action has been taken so far. Jan Satyagrah alleged that parking fee collection at the Mango Bus Stand is being carried out without proper tendering, resulting in a significant decline in government revenue.
Citing information obtained under the Right to Information Act, 2005, the organisation highlighted year-wise revenue figures to support its claim. In 2016–17, departmental collection of parking fees reportedly generated Rs 46.52 lakh, which increased to Rs 68.33 lakh in 2017–18. In 2018–19, revenue rose sharply to Rs 1.75 crore when collection was carried out through agencies. However, subsequent years saw a decline: Rs 1.05 crore in 2019–20, Rs 69.52 lakh in 2020–21, Rs 48.11 lakh in 2021–22 and Rs 90.75 lakh in 2022–23. For the period from April 1 to July 31, 2023, revenue stood at only Rs 38.79 lakh.
Jan Satyagrah questioned how revenue could continue to fall despite an increase in the number of buses and shops at the bus stand, alleging possible irregularities at the departmental level. The organisation has urged the state government and district administration to conduct a high-level inquiry, hold meetings and carry out site inspections to ascertain the reasons behind the declining revenue.
Appealing for prompt action, Jan Satyagrah president Manojit Kumar Mishra stated that transparent and lawful administration is essential in public interest and expressed hope that the state government would take corrective measures without delay.
