Jamshedpur: The city police have intensified their crackdown on the Sardar Gang following the bust of a major illegal arms and drugs racket in Tillu Bhatta Basti under Sonari police station. After the arrest of gang leader Lakhindra Sardar, police have now arrested his close associate Sushil Kerai and sent him to judicial custody.
Sources revealed that Sushil had been involved in the gang’s operations for a long time and had detailed knowledge of both the illegal arms trade and the parallel businesses of narcotics and illicit liquor. Investigators obtained strong evidence against him, leading to his arrest.
Taking the case seriously, SSP Piyush Pandey has formed a special team to trace other active members. Police suspect that the gang’s network may extend beyond Sonari into several parts of the city.
Residents said the Sardar Gang has had influence in the area for years, and the latest arrests may only be the beginning of larger revelations. Officials confirmed that more arrests were expected as surveillance had been tightened across suspected hideouts.
