Jamshedpur, Dec 10: A large number of people attended the Men’s Hockey World Cup trophy special event at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Saturday.
The prestigious trophy was displayed at JRD Tata Sports Complex from 11 am to 6:30 pm for public viewing as part of its nationwide tour which had started and will culminate in Odisha. JRD Sports Complex saw a large number of people waiting patiently for their turn to see the coveted trophy and get clicked with it.

On the occasion, officials and players from Jamshedpur’s Naval Tata Hockey Academy, Tata Steel and JRD Tata Sports Complex were present.
Ashish Kumar, Head, Sports, Tata Steel said the Hockey World Cup Trophy traveling to Jamshedpur is a proud moment for all of us.

“India is trying to revive its golden era in hockey. The trophy is traveling through the state so that people get excited about the game and encourage kids,” Kumar added.
BJP leader Kunal Sarangi who was present at the venue, said that we are fortunate that Hockey World Cup trophy has arrived in Jamshedpur today, courtesy Tata Steel and Naval Tata Hockey Academy.

“It is a very proud moment that India is hosting the World Cup and I would like to thank Tata Steel for hosting the trophy event,” added Kunal.
In days leading up to the tournament, the trophy will visit cities across India as fans gear up for the 2023 edition of the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup which will be held in two of India’s Olympic-standard stadiums in Odisha – Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela between January 13 and 27, 2023.

The quadrennial hockey world cup will see the participation of 176 players from 16 countries and cheered on by millions of fans across the world.
“The passion and pride that the country has for Hockey is second to none and it has been fantastic to see people from across Jamshedpur visiting JRD Sports Complex to have a glimpse of the World Cup Trophy and share in the excitement of India hosting the World Cup, ” said Arnab Gupta, a banker.

The 15th edition of the hockey championship is divided into four pools, competing for the title with 44 matches that will be played with the final scheduled on January 29 at the Kalinga Stadium, where the 15th World Cup champions will be crowned. The four pool winners (A-D) will advance to the quarter-finals while the teams finishing second and third in their pools will have to play crossover matches for the remaining four quarter-final spots in the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar – Rourkela.
