Jamshedpur: Campaign against single use plastic launched in Jugsalai

Jamshedpur, July 5: Jugsalai Nagar Parishad has set up a team to crack down on traders stocking, distributing or selling banned single use plastic items.

The executive officer of the civic body, Jagdish Prasad Yadav, said, “Single use plastic items including those made of polystyrene have been banned. We will continue the campaign in the days to come.”

A team of Jugsalai Nagar Parishad officials ran a campaign against single use plastic from Station Road Gurudwara till Jugsalai railway level crossing on Tuesday. Single use plastic and polystyrene items were recovered from few shops. A total of Rs 2500 was recovered as fine from the said shops. The officials found that some other shops have also started selling wooden forks, knives, candy sticks and paper straws, plates, cups, glasses besides selling leaf plates and cups.

The officials appealed to traders to cooperate with the administration in implementing ban on single use plastics. They also urged customers to carry cloth or jute bags with them while shopping.
