Jamshedpur, July 5: Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) continued its campaign against single use plastic here on Tuesday. A vigilance squad of the municipal body conducted surprise raids in the marketplaces and shops and seized a good deal of banned single used plastic. It seized 50 kgs of banned plastic and fined the violators of Rs 7000 altogether.
The campaign was launched yesterday in view of the banning of 19 single use plastic items nationwide with effect from 1st July last.
Sources said the vigilance team was not only seizing plastics but also spread public awareness on its hazardous impact on human life and environment. The AMC will ensure that banned plastic is not stored, sold or used in its five zones. Two teams have been formed to crack down on violators of the plastic ban, officials said.
