Malayalam actress arrested for assaulting doctor

Police arrested Malayalam actress Athulya Chandra and two associates on Thursday for allegedly trapping and assaulting a young doctor inside an apartment. Investigators named twelve individuals as suspects in the case and launched a search to trace the remaining nine accused.
The assault occurred on November 2 after the actress contacted the doctor, who was a personal friend. She claimed her aunt suffered from serious health issues and urgently needed medical care at her flat.
The doctor trusted her request and arrived at the apartment near Kochi around 6:30 p.m. However, he found no patient seeking medical treatment inside the residence. Instead, a group of twelve individuals, including the actress, waited for him inside the flat.
The group immediately trapped the doctor upon his entry and threatened him. A primary suspect, identified as Bibin, struck the doctor hard across the face. Other members of the group joined the attack while forcing the doctor to sit on a chair.
The attackers beat him repeatedly during the ordeal. The group then seized his mobile phones and personal belongings before letting him leave. Investigators estimated the total value of the stolen mobile devices at approximately ₹3 lakh.
The doctor escaped the apartment and directly approached the Kadavanthra police station. He filed a formal complaint detailing the entire incident to the duty officers. Police registered a criminal case immediately and initiated a targeted investigation.
Officers took Athulya Chandra and two accomplices into custody during initial raids. Investigators currently question the three suspects to establish the full timeline of events. Authorities confirmed they secured active leads regarding the remaining nine suspects.
Police also examine whether a financial dispute or personal enmity motivated the planned assault. They expect to execute further arrests as the investigation progresses over the coming days.
The incident sparked widespread concern across the region due to the deliberate misuse of a medical request to execute the crime.
