ECI roll revision 2027: Final electoral list out on January 21

The Election Commission of India announced a detailed timeline for the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls.
The poll panel aims to enrol left-out and first-time eligible voters across select states and union territories.
Official releases confirm that authorities will prepare the integrated draft electoral rolls by November 30.
The Commission fixed the deadline for the final publication of rolls to January 21, 2027.
This schedule provides a two-month window for filing appeals, raising objections, and resolving public claims.
Authorities will conduct the summary revision exercise in phases rather than as a nationwide one-go drive.
Officials will undertake the process where Special Intensive Revision has finished or is currently underway.
The Commission postponed the schedule for Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Delhi, Tripura, and Telangana.
Poll authorities will announce the revision timeline for these ten states and union territories at a later date.
The panel also delayed the exercise in hilly regions like Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Chilly winter weather conditions prompted officials to push back the drive in these northern mountain territories.
Local election administration staff must finish the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations by November 20.
Officials will complete and publish the integrated draft electoral rolls on November 30 for public viewing.
Eligible citizens and political representatives can file claims and objections between November 30 and December 12.
Designated electoral officers must process and dispose of all filed claims and objections by January 16, 2027.
The election body will issue the final published electoral rolls across designated regions on January 21, 2027.
The Commission issued strict guidelines for booth level officers, district officers, and electoral registration officers.
Chief Electoral Officers will publish a detailed press note on the day of final publication.
State officers will share photographs showing registration officers handing weekly lists to recognized political parties.
These formal communications will inform citizens and political parties about the official legal appeal process.
Chief Electoral Officers will outline the final elector details and guide the public on legal remedies.
The Commission had previously instructed twenty states and union territories on September 29 to start enrolment drives.
That special initiative specifically targeted unregistered young citizens reaching voting age across the targeted regions.
The latest announcement marks the formal commencement of the electoral roll updating process nationwide.
Field staff will conduct house visits to verify voter details and register missing eligible individuals accurately.
Voters can also submit registration forms online through the official portal during this revision period.
Local registration officers will maintain updated registers throughout the two-month claims and objections window.
This phased approach ensures smooth administrative execution while accommodating varying regional conditions and local weather patterns.
