Jamshedpur, Feb 9: MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, on Friday, met Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, to discuss negotiations with the Jharkhand government regarding the forest department’s objections for the construction of an airport in Dhalbhumgarh of East Singhbhum district. Mahato presented a memorandum to the Union Minister, stating that the entire Kolhan region, including Bengal and Odisha, would benefit greatly from the construction of an airport at Dhalbhumgarh.
Mahato emphasized the need for urgent discussions with the Jharkhand government to facilitate the construction of these roads. He highlighted that recently, he had raised the issue of the airport in the Lok Sabha, expressing astonishment that despite claims of halting the airport construction citing the elephant corridor, no elephants have been seen in the area till date.
Mahato further explained the significance of Dhalbhumgarh Airport, stating that Jamshedpur, known for Tata Industrial Estate, had established large industrialists like Tata. Additionally, Adityapur houses a significant sector of MSMEs and the automobile industry, with approximately two thousand industries established, along with a significant mining sector. Hence, the central government had approved the construction of Dhalbhumgarh Airport, allocating nearly Rs one hundred crore for it. After receiving approval, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das and former State Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India, Jayant Sinha, laid the foundation stone for the airport in January 2019. However, due to the failure to obtain the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the forest department, the construction could not commence yet.
