Jamshedpur: Sonari police have arrested two youths involved in a purse-snatching incident targeting a woman in the Sonari area and recovered the stolen belongings along with the scooter used in the crime.
The accused have been identified as Mohd. Arju, a resident of Kadma, and Mohd. Wasim, a resident of Bistupur.
Police said the duo was apprehended following a detailed investigation aided by CCTV surveillance footage.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 23 when Rosalin Raj, a resident of Telco, was walking home after attending teacher training classes. As she passed through G Road under the Sonari police station area, two men riding a scooter allegedly snatched her purse and fled the scene.
Following the incident, the victim lodged an FIR against unknown persons at Sonari police station. Acting on the complaint, investigators examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby locations. The footage helped police identify the suspects, leading to a successful raid and their subsequent arrest.
Police have also recovered the scooter used in the offence and the snatched belongings from the accused. During the investigation, it emerged that Mohd. Arju has a prior criminal record, officials added.
After interrogation, both accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police believe the arrests will help curb the recent spate of snatching incidents in the area. Investigators are also probing whether the accused were involved in other similar crimes reported across the city.
