Jamshedpur, July 8: Late Sunday night, a sudden fire broke out in hut-like shops near Dimna Chowk under MGM police station and quickly spread across to nearby shops. Local residents promptly alerted the fire department.
Two fire engines from the Jharkhand Fire Department arrived on the scene and began efforts to extinguish the blaze. Shopkeepers rushed to the site to salvage their goods, but the fire completely destroyed eight shops.
Affected shopkeeper Pradeep Gorai reported that his fruit shop, which also sold bags and helmets, was among those burnt. He closed his shop for the night and went home, only to be informed of the fire at around 1 AM. By the time he arrived, the fire brigade was already working to control the fire, but his shop was beyond salvaging. Pradeep estimated his losses at approximately Rs two lakh.
Other shops affected by the fire included Pashupati Mahato’s fruit shop, Salil Mandal’s hotel, Jayal Gorai’s tea shop, Dutta Ji’s cosmetics shop, Vishwanath Mahato’s chicken shop, and Vrindavan Gorai’s noodles shop. The total losses from the fire are estimated to be between Rs 8 and 10 lakhs. Pradeep speculated that the fire might have been started deliberately by anti-social elements.
