Police arrested an active member of the Rahul Dubey gang following a firefight in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district.
The suspect sustained a bullet wound during retaliatory firing in the Karmatila forest under Urimari police station limits.
Authorities identified the accused as twenty-two-year-old Anshu Dubey, a resident of Dube Marathiya village in Garhwa district.
Officers took him into custody and immediately admitted him to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police recovered a 7.62 mm pistol, live cartridges, a spent shell, a mobile phone, and gang pamphlets.
The arrest follows a recent violent extortion attempt in the Urimari area.
Unidentified assailants opened fire on a private security guard at Sainik Mining Company on October 26.
The attack seriously injured the guard after the company allegedly failed to pay extortion money.
Investigating officers found Rahul Dubey gang pamphlets left behind at the crime scene.
Police registered a formal complaint on October 27 against Rahul Dubey and several unnamed accomplices.
Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar formed a Special Investigation Team to track the suspects.
Barkagaon SDPO Amit Anand led the team during the investigation and subsequent raid operations.
Police tracked down Anshu Dubey and interrogated him regarding his involvement in the shooting.
During questioning, he confessed to participating in the October 26 extortion attack alongside his associates.
He disclosed that he hid the attack weapon and remaining pamphlets inside the Karmatila forest.
The investigation team escorted the suspect into the dense forest to retrieve the concealed evidence.
During the search operation, the accused suddenly pushed police personnel away to escape custody.
He retrieved the hidden firearm and opened fire directly at the surrounding police team.
The Urimari outpost officer-in-charge immediately fired back in self-defence to neutralize the threat.
The retaliatory bullet hit the suspect in his left leg, bringing him down instantly.
Officers disarmed the injured criminal and secured the immediate perimeter around the location.
The team seized two live rounds of 7.62 mm calibre along with the spent cartridge.
Investigators also confiscated the suspect’s mobile phone and two additional gang pamphlets from the scene.
Police confirmed that the accused faces multiple charges related to extortion and attempted murder.
Authorities continue active operations across the region to locate and arrest the remaining gang members.
