Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief on Friday over the loss of seven lives in a tragic road accident in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.

Modi extended his heart-felt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured victim through a post on social media platform X.
The tragic incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday near the Jone-Ludru turn along the busy Karra-Torpa main road.
Local residents had gathered along the roadside to assist a rider after a minor scooter accident.
A speeding 18-wheeler trailer truck approaching from the Torpa side suddenly ran over the group of helpful bystanders.
The collision killed six people instantly at the scene.
A 12-year-old boy later succumbed to his severe injuries while receiving treatment at Khunti Sadar Hospital.
The accident also injured a young girl, who continues to receive medical attention.
Angry villagers staged protests on Friday morning by burning tyres near the Karra railway crossing.
The demonstration completely halted all vehicular traffic along the main road.
Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the speeding trailer driver.
They also demanded government jobs and adequate monetary compensation for the families of the victims.
Villagers highlighted poor road visibility and dangerous conditions at the Jone-Ludru turn.
They alleged that heavy commercial vehicles frequently speed through the accident-prone stretch without proper safety controls.
Demonstrators urged local authorities to enforce strict road safety measures immediately to prevent future tragedies.
Police officers and administrative officials quickly arrived at the scene to negotiate with the angry crowd.
Officials assured the protesters that the government will provide full assistance and compensation to the affected families.
Authorities deployed additional police personnel in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
