A joint team of the Bihar Police Special Task Force and local police killed three wanted criminals during a fierce early morning encounter in Patna district on Friday.
The intense exchange of gunfire erupted around 3:00 a.m. in the riverine Sherpur area along the Ganga River, operating under the jurisdiction of the Maner police station.
The deceased criminals were identified as J.P. Yadav, Suraj Kumar alias Raja Sharma, and Bablu Kumar, all of whom carried extensive criminal records across multiple jurisdictions.
Maner Station House Officer Rajnish Kumar sustained injuries during the shootout when a bullet grazed his arm, prompting immediate medical attention from surrounding personnel on site.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma immediately rushed to the scene following initial reports of the armed confrontation to oversee police operations.
The joint police teams launched the targeted operation after receiving precise intelligence that three dangerous criminals had assembled in Sherpur to execute a major crime.
When security forces closed in on the reported hideout, the suspects aggressively opened fire on the approaching officers, forcing the law enforcement team to retaliate quickly.
The heavy gunfire continued for several intense minutes, during which the desperate criminals fired 24 rounds while the retaliating police force responded with 18 rounds.
Security personnel carefully approached the position after the shooting ceased and discovered all three suspects lying on the ground with severe gunshot wounds.
Officers immediately evacuated the injured men to a nearby hospital, where attending doctors pronounced all three deceased upon arrival at the facility.
Law enforcement officers subsequently recovered two modern pistols, one country-made firearm, and numerous empty cartridges directly from the active encounter site during initial processing.
Authorities systematically preserved all visual evidence at the location and dispatched the three bodies to the local hospital for mandatory post-mortem examinations.
Danapur-2 Sub-Divisional Police Officer A.K. Jha confirmed that all three deceased men were heavily involved in the high-profile murder of Sanjit Kumar alias Bholu.
Sanjit Kumar previously served as the president of the Vyapur Primary Agricultural Credit Society in Maner before suspects brutally assassinated him in a targeted hit.
Investigating officers identified Bablu Kumar and Suraj Kumar as the primary shooters who executed the killing under direct instructions from their criminal accomplices.
Police records established that J.P. Yadav operated as the mastermind and chief conspirator who planned the entire assassination strategy behind the society president’s murder.
Multiple police stations across the state had previously registered several serious criminal cases against the three men, including charges of murder and armed assault.
Specialized investigative units continue to examine the physical evidence collected from the scene while conducting further inquiries to finalize the official encounter report.
