Jamshedpur: The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary administration has launched a robust, modern strategy to protect its forests from fires during the scorching summer heat. To ensure round-the-clock vigilance and swift action, authorities have deployed a specialized ‘Special-64’ team consisting of trained fire watchers across the sanctuary.
Strategic Zonal Monitoring
The Dalma Divisional Forest office has divided the sanctuary into six strategic beats to maximize monitoring efficiency: Mango, Bhadudih, Patamda, Nutandih, the Dalma core area, and Chakulia.
Each beat utilizes eight dedicated fire watchers who patrol their designated zones continuously. This deployment aims to minimize response times and prevent small outbreaks from escalating into major disasters.
Modern Firefighting Technology
To strengthen its defensive capabilities, the Forest Department has introduced modern equipment, including high-pressure fire blowers. These devices allow teams to create “fire lines” quickly by clearing dry leaves and debris with air pressure, effectively stopping flames from spreading. Additionally, the department has provided all fire watchers with essential safety and firefighting kits.
Community Awareness and Cooperation
Beyond technical upgrades, the department actively engages local communities in prevention efforts. Officials are conducting awareness campaigns in surrounding villages, urging residents to avoid lighting fires in forest zones and to report emergencies immediately.
Forest officials emphasized that community cooperation remains crucial to protecting Dalma’s wildlife. By combining trained personnel, modern tools, and public participation, the administration expects to effectively mitigate fire risks throughout the summer season.
