Jamshedpur, June 11: In a bid to streamline traffic movement in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs, the Traffic Police on Thursday launched a special enforcement drive in Sakchi market.

The operation, led by Traffic DSP Neeraj Kumar, targeted illegal encroachments and vehicles parked in no-parking zones, resulting in the removal of several obstructions and the issuance of fines to violators.

The drive commenced along Sakchi Straight Mile Road and adjoining market areas, where police teams cleared temporary stalls, unauthorized roadside setups, and other encroachments that were obstructing vehicular and pedestrian movement.

Authorities also took action against two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked in restricted zones, towing several vehicles and issuing challans under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The sudden crackdown triggered a brief commotion in the market, with encroachers and vehicle owners scrambling to avoid penalties.

However, once the operation concluded, the roads appeared significantly wider and less congested, leading to a noticeable improvement in traffic flow across the area.

Traffic officials said persistent encroachment and haphazard parking have been major contributors to daily traffic snarls in Sakchi, causing inconvenience to commuters, shoppers, and traders alike.

The special drive was undertaken to restore order and ensure smoother movement in the market area.

Speaking on the occasion, Traffic DSP Neeraj Kumar emphasized that traffic regulations apply equally to everyone.
“Encroachment on public roads and parking in prohibited areas will not be tolerated. Similar enforcement drives will continue not only in Sakchi but also in other busy commercial zones of the city to improve traffic management and reduce congestion,” he said.

The police also appealed to citizens to use designated parking spaces and refrain from occupying public roads, stressing that public cooperation is essential for maintaining a safe and efficient traffic system in the city.
