AI aids radiology, human expertise still key: Dr. Malini Lawande in Jamshedpur

IRIA Seminar in Jamshedpur Highlights Advances in Imaging Technology

Jamshedpur, April 26: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing an important role in improving efficiency in radiology, but it cannot replace human intelligence, said Dr. Malini Lawande at a seminar held in the city on Sunday. The programme was organised by the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) at a hotel in PM Mall, Bistupur.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lawande explained that AI works only as instructed and serves as a support tool for doctors. “It makes processes faster and more efficient but cannot go beyond human direction,” she said. She also highlighted advancements in modern imaging technologies, noting that new ultrasound and MRI machines can detect even the smallest blood vessels with clarity.

Clarifying concerns, she said that X-rays and CT scans involve very low levels of radiation and are generally safe, while ultrasound procedures are completely radiation-free.

The seminar was inaugurated by Piyush Pandey, Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum; Nidhi Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police, Seraikela-Kharsawan; and Dr. Sahir Pal.

Prominent attendees included Dr. Neelam Jain, President of IRIA Jamshedpur Chapter, Secretary Dr. Abhishek Jaiswal, and other medical professionals such as Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Dr. Devesh Bahadur, Dr. Sushmita Renu, Dr. Sanjay, and Dr. Abhilash.

The seminar focused on emerging technologies and their role in enhancing medical diagnosis and patient care.
