JAMSHEDPUR: East Singhbhum district has launched its first-ever international commercial export of mangoes, sending a 1.5-tonne consignment directly to London.
The initiative, backed by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), officially introduces local orchardists to the competitive global marketplace. East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan flagged off the inaugural shipment from the Jamshedpur Collectorate.

Ranjan described the achievement as a defining turning point for the local farming community, emphasizing that international distribution will significantly boost rural incomes and unlock fresh avenues for agrarian growth in the region.
A Standardized, Farmer-Led Supply Chain
The export operation relied heavily on rural coordination and strict compliance with international food safety standards:
- FPO Mobilization: Local Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) spearheaded the initiative, managing the collection and supply logistics directly from district orchards.
- APEDA Facilitation: As the central facilitating agency, APEDA supervised the commercial pipeline, ensuring the produce successfully cleared all international export protocols.
- Quality Assurance: To meet rigid European import criteria, the fruit underwent specialized quality screening and commercial grading, followed by standardized export packaging to preserve freshness during transit.
Eyes on the Global Market
District officials believe this successful entry into the United Kingdom will motivate regional farmers to adopt scientific cultivation methods and rigorous quality control measures, aligning Jharkhand’s agricultural output with global consumer demands.
Moving forward, the East Singhbhum administration has pledged infrastructural and administrative backing. Plans are already underway to standardize and export a broader portfolio of local agricultural and horticultural products to international destinations.
