Prem Kumar wins Seraikela Kharsawan District Chess Championship

 

87 Players Participate in Two-Day Tournament at NIT Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, April 26: The 21st District Chess Championship 2026 concluded successfully at the TSG, National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. Organised by the District Chess Association in memory of late Suman Kumar Sinha, the two-day tournament saw participation from 87 players across the district and nearby areas, featuring several competitive matches.

Deputy Director R.B. Sharma attended the closing and prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest. Guests of honour included A.K.L. Srivastava, Latika Srivastava, District Chess Association Vice President Shailendra Kumar, and Commonwealth and Asian medalist Vatsal Singhania. The guests distributed prizes and encouraged participants.

In the Open category, Prem Kumar secured first place with 5½ points and won a cash prize of ₹4,000. Sushim Chaturvedi finished second, followed by Devjyoti Biswas in third place. Divyajyoti Das and Avkesh Vikram secured fourth and fifth positions respectively. Trophies were awarded to the top three players, while around 30 trophies were distributed across different age groups.

Participation certificates were given to all players. The tournament was conducted by Chief Arbiter Vikram Kumar, with support from Deputy Chief Arbiters Aniruddha Sahu and Deepak Kumar.

Organisers thanked participants and assured that similar events will continue to promote chess in the region.
