28-year-old man attacked with knives over alleged extra marital affair

Jamshedpur : In a bizarre incident a 28-year-old man was attacked by a group of youth with knives over alleged extra-marital affair with a woman at Devnagar under Sitaramdera police station area on Sunday morning. The victim, Zakir Hussain, iron-scrap businessman in Sitaramdera, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Zakir who is already married had developed extra-marital affair with a woman, Anita Devi after she was deserted by her husband a couple of months ago. But as Zakir’s wife came to know about his extra-marital affair, she protested. On the other hand, Anita had been pressing the Zakir to marry her.

According to sources, on being refused to be married, Anita (25) committed suicide by hanging at her house in Devnagar on April 8 this year.

Today when Zakir was about to leave for work, Anita’s brother Raju Sharma (23) came along with four others and attacked him. The attackers first thrashed Zakir and subsequently Raju had stabbed him repeatedly.

The injured Zakir was subsequently rescued by some local residents and taken to the medical college hospital. A police party had gone over to the MGM Medical College and Hospital and had taken statement of the victim.

Officer-in-charge, Sitaramdera police station, Sushil Kumar Chowdhury confirmed about the stabbing incident which was the result of an extra-marital affair.

“As per our initial investigation Zakir had an extra-marital affair with a woman, identified as Anita Devi, who has committed suicide 12 days ago. Though we are yet to get her post-mortem report, but the preliminary investigation had suggested that the woman, who was a divorcee, had later got into extra-marital affair with Zakir and wanted to marry him.

As she had failed to marry Zakir she committed suicide,” said the officer-in-charge.

Chowdhury said they had taken statement from the neighbours of the deceased woman and had confirmed that there was some relationship between Zakir’s and Anita that led her to committing suicide.
