Jamshedpur, Aug 19: Anger erupted in Mango’s Dimna Basti as dozens of women staged a protest at Olidih police station on Tuesday against the thriving trade of daily mobile lottery and illegal liquor sales. The protest was led by former BJP leader Vikas Singh, who accompanied the women in filing a collective complaint.
Residents alleged that the illegal activities have worsened to the point where young people are selling government rationed rice and wheat to fund their addictions. “Our families are breaking apart and youths are drowning in liquor and gambling. If police don’t act, we will take matters into our own hands,” warned one of the women protesters.
Vikas Singh added, “Mango has become a hub for mobile lottery, fueling thefts, snatchings, suicides and domestic violence. If authorities don’t shut this down within two days, women armed with placards and traditional weapons will demolish these illegal dens.”
The station officer assured the protestors that strict action would soon be taken to dismantle the illegal networks.
