Womans death triggers protest

Jamshedpur, Nov 17: Sakuntala Das, a 38-year-old woman, died at the Tata Motors Hospital in Telco at 4 am on Sunday during treatment.

The residents of Birsanagar from where the deceased belonged blocked the hospital gate since 11 am today.The agitators maintained that the woman has died of due to negligence and the hospital management must give them an undertaking in writing to provide the deceased’s kin adequate compensation, including a job.

The deceased was a contract worker at the Tata Motors Hospital. Ankit Anand, one of the protestors said that Sakuntala was suffering from gastric and had been admitted to the hospital on November 8.

After an initial treatment, a surgery of the patient’s intenstine was done, but instead of healing the operated part, the intenstine had developed infection, causing her to die at about 4 am today.

Despite representation by the management of the Tata Motors Hospital of compensation, the protestors are ontinuing the blockade of hospital gate to press the demand for a written assurance.

Officer-in-charge of Telco police station, Kamleshwar Pandey confirmed the protest. He said that police and hospital management are trying to sort out the matter.
