Jamshedpur: A tragic incident occurred at XLRI Jamshedpur under Bistupur police station, where a female worker lost her life due to electrocution while working on a building construction site. The deceased, identified as Panu Sardar (27), was a resident of Beldih Gram basti and had been working as a labourer for the past six years. She was the only child of her elderly parents, Kalicharan Sardar and his wife, who are now left without any means of livelihood.

Following the incident, residents of the colony gathered outside XLRI on Saturday morning, staging a protest by blocking the institute’s gate and demanding compensation for the victim’s family. The protesters insisted that financial aid was necessary for the elderly parents’ survival. The victim’s cousin, Mukesh Sardar, stated that the family was seeking ₹15 lakh in compensation.

Negotiations took place between the XLRI management and the grieving family. During the discussions, the management initially proposed ₹8 lakh as compensation and also assured to cover the medical expenses incurred at TMH Hospital. The head of Khaira Hessa village also extended support to the family, urging the authorities to provide adequate financial assistance.

It is noteworthy that the incident took place on Friday evening when Panu Sardar sustained severe burns due to electrocution during construction work at XLRI. She was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where she succumbed to her injuries.
As the negotiations concluded, the XLRI management agreed to provide ₹8 lakh in compensation. However, the residents of the colony initially refused to collect the body, insisting on a fair settlement. Eventually, after discussions, they accepted the offered amount.
