100 girls get cervical cancer vaccines in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A cervical cancer vaccination drive was conducted on Friday under the joint aegis of DBMS Trust and Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West. The initiative aimed to protect young girls from cervical cancer through the HPV vaccine, which is available in the market for over ₹4,000 but was provided at a special concessional rate for students of DBMS schools and colleges.

Inaugurating the programme, DBMS Trust Chairperson B. Chandrashekhar highlighted the importance of making the vaccine affordable for students. Former Director of MTMH, Dr. Sujata Mitra, emphasized that cervical cancer is the only cancer that can be prevented through vaccination. She stated that the HPV vaccine is effective for girls aged 9 to 35 years.

A team led by Dr. Pushpanjali Panda from MTMH administered the vaccine to 100 girl students, including Reema Roy, Anika Manzar, Neha Nishad, Kamala Purti, Kanchan Mahato, Hina Parveen, Sama Naaz, Siddhi Jalan, Shivani Tudu, and Kiran Mahato.

The event saw active contributions from Anjali Ganesan, Pooja Paul, Afreen, Diksha, and Ankur under the aegis of the Rotaract Club and Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West. The programme was conducted in the presence of DBMS College Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Vice Principal Dr. Monika Uppal, Secretary of the Management Committee Shripriya Dharma Rajan, and Joint Secretary Sudha, along with Dilip and Geeta Mohan Das.
