Jamshedpur, Feb. 24: Rotary International District (RID) 3250 comprising of states of Jharkhand and Bihar is organizing a Walkathon on 25th February to commemorate completion of 113 years of Rotary. In Jamshedpur, eight rotary clubs will jointly organise the Walkathon to showcase their achievements like Polio eradication, Gift of Life Project, Literacy Project, Wash in School, Happy School Project etc.
Addressing a pre-event press conference at Beldih Club on Saturday, Rajendra Sachdev, assistant governor (Zone 17) RID 3250, said, the walkathon will start from Loyola school ground at 7a.m. and proceed to Rotary Clock Tower at Bistupur roundabout. The walk will be flagged off by Everester Premlata Agarwal.
More than 250 members of Rotary Clubs, Interact club, Rotaractors and well wishers will take part in the Walkathon. Balloons will be released from near the Clock tower where Jamshedpur MP Bidhut Baran Mahato, Chief of corporate communications Tata Steel Kulvin Suri and other guests will be present, informed Sachdev.
All the eight clubs will come on a single platform to showcase the work carried out for betterment of the society, said Varsha Chand, President, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur.
Talking about some of the signature projects of her club, Chand said, ‘Rotary shelter at Dhatkidih has been providing accommodation at nominal cost to the kin and relatives of cancer patients being treated at Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital. The club is also running a Mother-child project for more than 44 years at Bhilaipahari’.
Representatives of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur East, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur west, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Midtown, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel city, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Dalma, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Femina, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Couples informed about their signature projects including literacy project, Cleanliness Drive in government schools, Saheli Centers etc.
Alpa Parikh said, the highlight of Rotary year 2017-18 in District 3250 has been the Gift of Life Project in which surgeries of 128 children suffering from congenital heart disease have been performed successfully at Fortis Escorts, Max Hospital New Delhi and AIIMS Kochi. The Project costs nearly Rs 9 crores. Also present at the press meet were Geeta Dubey, Achinto Banerjee, Debabrata Banerjee, Moin Khan, Ashish Das and others.
