Cash recovered from guard�s house and riverbank
Jamshedpur: District police here on Saturday recovered Rs 24 lakh (approximately) stolen from an ATM of ICICI Bank situated on the main road under Ghatsila police station on the night of 20th February last. The main culprit of the crime, identified as Debu Rai, 30, security guard of the ATM, has been arrested.
According to SSP Anup Birtharey, the seized cash was recovered from two places. A special team set up to crack the theft case made the recovery partly from inside the under-construction house of the accused and party from the Swarnarekha riverbank near Dahigora crematorium. The accused had hidden the cash under the sand. He had used advanced and fast metal cutting tools to extract the cash from the ATM, said the SSP.
Rai had stolen a total of Rs 25,33,300 from the ATM. He reportedly spent some amount and hid the rest at the two places, sources said.
The SSP lauded the police team for cracking the grand theft in just three days. He said certificates of appreciation would be given to each member of the police team.
The police team comprised SDPO Ghatsila Rajendra Kumar Dubey, Inspector Satyendra Kumar Singh, Inspector Ajay Kumar, ASI Shiv Bihari Tiwary, ASI Sudhanshu Kumar, constable Shravan Kumar Rajak and a reserve guard of Ghatsila PS.
