Jamshedpur, Feb 2:Jharkhand is set to witness a major transformation in its railway infrastructure following a substantial allocation of Rs 7,536 crore in the Union Budget 2026–27, aimed at strengthening connectivity, safety and passenger amenities across the state.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, while addressing a press conference via video conferencing from New Delhi, said the current budget marks a significant rise in railway spending, with focused investments in safety enhancement, freight movement and high-speed rail corridors.
The allocation represents a dramatic increase over the average annual outlay of Rs 457 crore between 2009 and 2014, underscoring the Centre’s renewed focus on rail modernization in Jharkhand.
Key components of the investment include new line construction, doubling of tracks, station redevelopment and safety upgrades. As part of the Amrit Station Scheme, 57 railway stations in Jharkhand have been selected for comprehensive redevelopment to improve passenger facilities and travel experience.
Officials said the enhanced railway spending is expected to support industrial growth, improve mobility in mining and tribal regions, and generate employment in the state.
Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, attended the virtual press briefing from the SER Headquarters at Garden Reach, Kolkata, and later interacted with media representatives, highlighting the long-term impact of the increased budgetary support for Jharkhand’s rail network.
