Tournament inaugurated at Keenan Stadium with dignitaries and players in attendance
Jamshedpur: The Media Cup Cricket Tournament began on Monday at Keenan Stadium with an exciting opening match in which HUDCO XI defeated Dimna XI by eight wickets.
Batting first, Dimna XI scored 108 runs for eight wickets in the allotted 15 overs. Amjad was the top scorer with 32 runs off 21 balls, while Shekhar contributed 22 runs from 29 balls. For HUDCO XI, Jitendra and Randhir picked up one wicket each.
In reply, HUDCO XI comfortably chased the target, scoring 113 runs for the loss of two wickets in 13.2 overs. Raghavendra played a steady innings of 42 runs off 38 balls, while Jitendra added 22 runs from 22 balls. Raj Prasad and Surendra took one wicket each for Dimna XI. Raghavendra was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.
Earlier, the tournament was formally inaugurated with an opening ceremony. Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) DB Sundara Ramam attended as the chief guest. MLA Saryu Roy, Shekhar Dey, and Tata Steel UISL Managing Director Atul Bhatnagar were present as special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Sundar Ramam highlighted the importance of sportsmanship in the growth of sports. MLA Saryu Roy appreciated the initiative taken by journalists to organise the tournament, saying it would promote unity and healthy competition. Shekhar Dey and Atul Bhatnagar also praised the efforts behind the event.
Press Club President Manoj Kumar Singh, General Secretary Vinay Purty, and Treasurer Ajay Mahato honoured the guests with saplings and mementos. Several prominent journalists and dignitaries were present. The ceremony was conducted by Brijbhushan Singh, after which the guests met the players and officially declared the tournament open.
