Two nabbed for selling brown sugar in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 21: Two persons who were arrested in connection with peddling brown sugar were sent to judicial custody by the city police on Monday. Pouches containing 27.97 grams of brown sugar were seized from the duo that was posing as fish suppliers.

The accused, Sanatan Gorai, a resident of Sankosai and Sanjay Kotal, a resident of Jhargram, West Bengal, were arrested by Mango police station for selling brown sugar in the city. Superintendent of police, Jamshedpur (City), Vijay Shankar said that the police had received a tip-off about two persons riding a fish-laden pick-up van that is parked near Mango chowk are selling brown sugar.

A police team raided the spot and arrested the two accused with the contraband brown sugar. Police said that they recovered 100 pouches containing the drug from each of the accused and an additional consignment of 120 pouches of brown sugar from the van. Market value of the seized drug is likely to be Rs 70,000, said police.

Police officials who were part of the operation revealed that Sanatan used to peddle drugs. The duo was transporting the fish from Jhargram. “On the way Sanatan had bought the brown sugar which he was selling near Mango. We have identified the persons who sold the brown sugar to Sanatan. We are trying to identify and arrest them,” said a police official.
