Eight Students from The Graduate School College for Women Selected for JGIIS

Jamshedpur: Two teams comprising eight Semester-4 Geography students from The Graduate School College for Women, Jamshedpur, have secured selection for the Jharkhand Grassroot Innovation Internship Scheme (JGIIS). JGIIS is an ambitious initiative of the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand.

The mandatory 8-week internship program of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) implemented via the National Education Policy (NEP) will run from June 1 to July 26, 2026. Following recommendations from Dr. Sunita Kumari, PG Head of the Geography Department and University Coordinator at Kolhan University, Chaibasa, the Jharkhand Government’s JGIIS department granted final approval to these teams.

Dr. Deepti, Assistant Professor in the Geography Department, will mentor the students throughout the internship. Additionally, authorities have appointed Amresh Sourav from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad as the ‘Mentor of Mentors’ for these teams.

Fieldwork Allocations

The two selected teams will conduct extensive field research in the following regions:

  • Team 1 (Sarjamda North Panchayat): Roshni Kumari, Namita Saw, Rita Kumari, and Shivani Kumari.
  • Team 2 (Susnigaria North Panchayat): Syeda Irfa Ramla, Manisha Kumari, Anukriti Gupta, and Maya Rani Mandal.

Project Focus and Objectives

During this 8-week summer internship, the students will tour rural areas to compile data on traditional wisdom and local innovations using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) methodology. Rural communities possess an extensive repository of age-old traditional knowledge and unique, sustainable living innovations.

This internship offers the students an excellent platform to learn directly from the grassroots level. Ultimately, the data they collect will serve as a vital repository for the state’s future developmental projects.

Celebrating this major milestone, College Principal (Professor-in-Charge) Dr. Veena Singh Priyadarshi congratulated all the selected students and their mentor, Dr. Deepti.
