Jamshedpur: Mango will witness a major desilting drive of its primary drainage channels starting Monday, Additional Municipal Commissioner Jitendra Kumar Yadav announced on Saturday.
Yadav also confirmed a shift in the water supply schedule for Gour Bustee, where residents currently receive water at midnight. He has already directed his subordinates to finalize more convenient water supply timings.
The announcement followed a meeting at Yadav’s office with Mukul Mishra, the public utilities representative for Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, alongside community members. Roy had previously raised the midnight supply issue in the state assembly due to the immense hardship it caused residents.
Streamlining Water Distribution and Infrastructure
During the meeting, Mishra pressed the Additional Municipal Commissioner to immediately commission the bypass line at Aastha Space Town. Mishra explained that activating this system would largely resolve the acute water shortages in Shankosai, Subhash Colony, and Kalika Nagar. The bypass will add an extra hour of water supply on top of the current 40-minute daily window.
Yadav ordered the Assistant Engineer to operationalize the bypass line without delay and to submit any pending documentation directly to his desk for instant approval.
Strict Stance Against VIP Interventions on Streetlights
Mishra also highlighted the arrival of 351 new streetlights and demanded their immediate installation across the region. He flagged a concerning incident where the husband of a local elected representative had allegedly intimidated municipal officials, demanding that no streetlights be installed without his personal authorization.
“We will not tolerate this kind of hooliganism,” Mishra told the Additional Municipal Commissioner. “Officials must use their own discretion to determine where lighting is needed and install it accordingly. Otherwise, we will launch a democratic protest against such high-handedness.”
Crackdown on Illegal Water Connections
Turning his attention to water theft, Mishra demanded a comprehensive list of all legitimate water connections in the area, a request that Yadav accepted.
Mishra urged the administration to run a verification drive to separate legal users from unauthorized ones, noting that illegal tapping significantly lowers water pressure for paying consumers. He proposed a clear two-pronged strategy: either disconnect the illegal users immediately or regularize their connections to boost municipal revenue and improve distribution efficiency.
Yadav assured the delegation that he will personally order an official investigation into the matter to protect the interests of Mango’s residents.
