Jamshedpur: A significant crackdown on an illegal LPG gas theft operation in the MGM Police Station area of Jamshedpur has led to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a large quantity of stolen gas. On 29th November, the police raided a location in Belajhuri, situated on NH 33, where the suspects were stealing LPG gas from tankers en route from Haldia in West Bengal to Bokaro and Seraikela. During the raid, the police recovered 48 gas cylinders, five gas tankers, and three pickup vans. The suspects were involved in refilling gas into the cylinders and selling them at hotels, shops, and other locations in Jamshedpur.
The arrested individuals—Rakesh Kumar (the driver of the tanker), Abid (from Kolkata), and Ajay Kumar Pathak (from Shantinagar)—confessed during interrogation that they had been involved in this illegal business for some time. They would get paid between Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 for filling cylinders, depending on their size. According to their statements, they worked in coordination with local traders, including Pramod Dubey, Sanjay Kumar, and Ranvijay Singh, who were allegedly involved in the distribution of the stolen gas in Jamshedpur and Saraikela. Police are now searching for these accomplices, who are still at large.
The police operation has resulted in the seizure of important evidence, including the nozzle used for filling the gas into cylinders. Authorities have filed an FIR against the accused and are conducting further investigations to dismantle the entire network involved in the illegal gas trade. The case continues to be under investigation by the MGM police.
