Chandil, Oct 22 : Under the leadership of BJP leader Harelal Mahto, a massive bike rally was organized in Chandil on Wednesday to commemorate the sacrifices of Ajit Mahto and Dhananjay Mahto, martyrs of the historic Jharkhand movement who lost their lives during the Tiruldih firing incident. A substantial gathering of BJP workers, regional leaders, and local supporters turned out for the event to honor the fallen activists while collectively demanding official state recognition and immediate government assistance for their surviving family members.
The procession commenced from Kurli in Chandil and traversed through major transit points including Chauka Mor, Choga, and Adardih before arriving at the memorial site in Tiruldih. Joining the demonstration were Bari Devi, the wife of martyr Dhananjay Mahto, and their son, Upen Mahto. At the Tiruldih Martyr’s Square, participants paid their respects by laying floral tributes at the altar and statues of the martyrs, amidst widespread slogans honoring the movement’s legacy and celebrating Jharkhand. The rally subsequently proceeded to the Kukru block headquarters before culminating at Sirum Martyr’s Square.
Addressing the gathering on the solemn occasion, Harelal Mahto targeted the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, alleging that despite repeated assurances over the past forty-four years, the families of the movement’s martyrs remain deprived of government jobs and long-overdue formal recognition. He asserted that those who sacrificed everything to secure statehood deserve concrete support rather than prolonged delays. Highlighting his ongoing commitment, Mahto noted that he had personally funded the construction of a permanent home for Dhananjay Mahto’s family and pledged to continue offering personal aid.
Furthermore, Mahto announced that upon the formation of a BJP-NDA government in the state, comprehensive efforts will be undertaken to extend official honors to the families of Ajit Mahto and Dhananjay Mahto, as well as to individuals who were injured or jailed during the Tiruldih firing incident. Describing their struggles as an indispensable chapter in the history of Jharkhand, he reaffirmed the party’s dedication to preserving their legacy. Key figures in attendance included BJP District General Secretary Dr. Bhushan Murmu and BJYM District Vice-President Manoranjan, alongside numerous party workers
